Some of the best digital nutrition scales are absolutely priceless for anyone who is taking monitoring their food intake seriously. • EDITORS PICK: EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale (check the latest price)
  • Perfect Portions Scale
  • Kitrics Digital Nutrition Scale

Anyway, without further delay here are our kitchen scale reviews. These are our picks for the best digital nutrition scales of 2019…

Editors Pick: EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale

EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale Review
EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale

Our top pick for the best digital nutrition scale is the EatSmart Scale.

Let me explain why…

The EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale will tell you most of the important nutritional facts on any food or ingredient in its database. This includes calories, sodium, carbs, fibre, fats, etc. Essentially any of the nutritional information you would need to know at home.

Why would people want to know this information you may be wondering? There are two main reasons.

  1. Many diets these days include calorie counting. Using your gender and weight you can work out the number of calories you should be consuming each day to gain weight, lose weight, or maintain your current weight. Whatever your goal may be, working out the number of calories you need to consume to achieve it, and then counting how many calories you eat each day, is pretty much a surefire way to meet your weight goals. As you can imagine calculating the calories of everything you eat can get a bit tedious, especially if you don’t eat 100% prepackaged food products that are required to state the number of calories in each serving on the box. It, therefore, goes without saying that we highly recommend the small investment in a digital nutrition scale if you are partaking in any sort of diet that involves calorie counting.
  2. Secondly knowing what is in your food is important for people with medical conditions such as diabetes. Knowing the contents of your food can help manage your condition, and work towards managing it.

Anyway, back to the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale review. This scale scores bonus points for looking great, and being reasonably compact. It is not going to take up much room in your kitchen.

It is amazing the technology they can pack into this small kitchen scale.

Digital Nutrition ScaleThis particular scale will calculate calories, fibre, carbs, sodium, fats, vitamin k, and 6 other key nutrients from its database of literally thousands of packaged foods, and 999 whole foods. If you plan to eat it, there is a good chance the EatSmart food scale has the data for it.

All the essential features of a good digital nutrition scale are included in this model.  For example, it will automatically power off after use, it can weigh in grams and ounces, and the screen has a nice white back-light for easy reading. It runs on 4 AAA batteries which are included and has a great 2-year warranty and guarantee.

The bottom line is, if you want one of the best digital nutrition scales, then you seriously need to check out the EatSmart Scale. It is the best digital nutrition scale we have reviewed in 2018, and also the best kitchen scale for baking that we have reviewed this year.

Perfect Portions Scale Review

Perfect Portions Digital Scale Review
Perfect Portions Digital Scale

The Perfect Portions Digital Nutrition Scale also has close to 500 positive reviews online and is typically rated to have at least 4.5 stars out of 5 (the same as the EatSmart Scale review above).

I love this scale because of its sleek design, but I don’t know if it should be a deciding factor in which is the best digital nutrition scale to buy. If you have a modern kitchen and like well-designed products, then you will love this food scale.

The small bonus of having such a sleek well-designed product is that it is super easy to clean. The smooth surface and flat buttons mean a simple wipe will keep these scales glass top clean and hygienic.

The accuracy on this food scale is the same as the EatSmart Scale, which is within 0.1 ounce or 0.1 gram.

Greater Goods Perfect Portions ScaleDetailed nutritional information is recorded in the database for 2,000 common foods, and you can even add up to 99 custom codes of your own. It has non-slip and scratch-resistant feet which gave me piece of mind when using it on my new wooden bench top.

The one negative comment I have about this scale is that sometimes the numbers on the screen is hard to see if I am using it in a low light setting. This, however, is not a deal breaker for me, as who cooks in low light settings anyway?

As with most of the other digital nutrition scales reviews on this page, the Perfect Portions Digital Scale has a two-year warranty and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Kitrics Digital Nutrition Scale Review

Kitrics Digital Nutrition Scale
Kitrics Digital Nutrition Scale

I was hesitant to list the Kitrics Digital Nutrition Scale in my list of the best digital nutrition scales simply because the design of it isn’t something I want in my kitchen. It looks a bit clunky compared to the look and feel I am personally going for.

But if I want an unbiased list of the best food scales with a nutritional calculator, it would be unfair to omit the Kitrics Nutrition Scale simple because I don’t like the design.

So why would you buy this particular digital nutrition scale? There are a number of reasons. It is a bargain buy at under $30 and has a few hundred positive reviews on many of the largest retailers websites. Currently, on Amazon, it has an average of 4.5 stars across 300+ reviews.

You can’t get much better customer feedback than that.

So if you are watching your nutritional intake closely, then this product should definitely be one that you closely consider. To use this particular food scale you simply enter the food items code from the list of 1999 common foods, then place the item onto the platform. Once the weight of the items is recorded, the nutritional facts for this portion size of this particular food will display.

It can’t get much simpler than that!

Even though the Kitrics Nutrition Scale comes with 1999 common food items in its database (more than most people will ever need), you can also store customizable food code entries for any unique or special foods that you may like to weigh.

Despite me personally not liking the design, I must admit it is an easy to use product, not just when looking up nutritional data.

The weighing platform is stainless steel which makes it easy to wipe down should any food get onto it.

Kitrics Digital Nutrition ScaleNutritional information is displayed on the screen exactly the way it is provided on food packaging labels. This makes it very easy to understand, as most people who are on a diet are familiar with the way labels are displayed on food packages. This means nothing new to learn or understand. Just the way I like it!

As with the other scales for food on this page, you can weigh your food in grams or ounces. The scale will measure calories, calories from fat, carbs, protein, fat, saturated fat, fibre, sugars, sodium, and cholesterol.

The information is easy to read, displayed just the way it is on food packaging labels. At the end of the day, you can also calculate your daily nutritional intake, making this scale an essential dieting tool, or an eye-opener for those who wonder about their eating habits.

All in all, this is a great digital food scale at a great price.

Why buy a digital nutrition scale?

An ordinary digital kitchen scale simple measures the weight of the food you place on it. A modern digital nutrition scale is similar, except that it can tell you the nutritional data about the food you place on the scale.

It does this by looking up a database that contains the nutrient data for hundreds of the most common foods you are most likely to weigh. This includes all the information on typical baking ingredients, and also anything you are likely to use in making a smoothie.

If you want to know how many grams of carbohydrates are in a handful of strawberries, you can simply place the strawberries on the scale, set the scale to strawberries, and the display will show you the information.

Digital nutrition scales are pretty incredible, huh?!

The previous method of getting this data was weighing your strawberries on a standard kitchen scale, and then looking up the strawberries nutritional data online, and then doing a few calculations to figure out how this nutritional data applies to your weight of strawberries.

Nobody has time for that these days! Especially when the best digital nutrition scales can be purchased for under $50!

Scales for food aren’t something most households own. Even rarer are food scales with nutritional calculators.

I first started watching what I ate when I was about 31, which is earlier than most people (I think!). I noticed I was getting a bit of extra fat around my waist and was puffed after doing the smallest of tasks.

It was summer where I live, and I got into eating smoothies with ice to help cool me down. There are plenty of websites online that tell you how to make amazing smoothies, and other websites will calculate how many calories you need to lose weight.

Using my digital nutrition scale I could calculate how many calories I was eating with each smoothie, without having to manually do any calculations. After a few weeks of doing this, I knew roughly how many calories my favourite 3 or 4 smoothie recipes were, and managed my diet much better.

If you are about to start a diet, or just want to start living with a bit more knowledge about what you are putting in your body, I recommend buying a digital nutrition scale. They are super cheap and using the reviews on this page, you can be sure to buy the best digital nutrition scale for your needs.

Which is the best kitchen scale for baking?

In our opinion, the best kitchen scale for baking is the EatSmart Scale. This scale is cheap and affordable, is loaded with all the nutritional information of your produce, and works well as a general scale.

When baking you need precise measurements, and the EatSmart scale gives weights to the nearest whole gram or 0.1 ounces.

How to pick the best digital nutrition scale

When looking for the best digital food scale, there are a number of things to consider, other than simply which is the cheapest. Here are the top three things you should consider when buying a food scale.

Does the scale calculate mineral and vitamin content? As technology advances, digital nutrition scales are no longer limited to simply counting calories. Modern food scales will also calculate much of what is on a typical food packaging label. This includes, but isn’t limited too, a breakdown of carbs, protein, sodium, fibre, and fats. Some digital nutrition scales will also provide values for both total fat and saturated fat, which is perfect for people keeping a close eye on their fat intakes.

How many food items does the nutrition scale database contain? Many of the best digital food scales contain a built-in database of nutritional information for hundreds of different food items & ingredients. It’s generally a good idea to find a nutritional scale that has a wide-ranging database, so the majority of foods you’ll want to measure are automatically included. Most models will cover a wide range of food groups including fruits, meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, pasta, legumes, and baked goods.

How many custom food entries can the scale store? Nutrition scales have large databases, but there are literally thousands of different types of food and ingredients, so not everything will be included in the database. Some of the best digital nutrition scales also allow you to enter customised food entries. This is a really helpful feature which can save a lot of time and frustration. Everyone will have some favourite foods that are not included in the built-in database, so finding a customizable nutrition scale which allows for user-defined entries is a great idea. As mentioned in our Perfect Portions Scale review above, this scale allows for 99 custom entries into the database, which is more than enough for most people. The Kitrics Digital Scale also allows for up to 99 custom entries.

Hey how do I know what food each of the scales can monitor? I assume you will often come across items it doesn’t recognise?

The big drawback of the scales shown here is that you need to keep a booklet close to the scales, so you can look up the number for the food item you want to weigh. That booklet will take up space too, and get dirty, grimy, crusty and all kinds of unsanitary as it can’t be washed, and eventually it will be lost.
Any good nutritional scale need a system to look up the food from the scale itself, and not rely on punching in a code.

That is why you should look at the NutraTrack Mini. The most common foods and thier codes are printed right on top of the scale. Pretty cool and very fast to use.

If I want to eat 4 oz of ribeye steak will it calculate the nutitional value of the steak, or will the scale only calculate prepackaged foods?
